Melissa Makris, is a designer with an innovative vision and an investment enhancer mindset. Resourceful, and creative, she thinks with a broad band width in design-build consulting, interior design, space planning, identifying the team of architect, builder, and even the possible property acquisition(s).

Home design influences our day-to-day behavior patterns, and simply the way we feel a sense of nurturing energy at home. Her design infuses casual living elegance, timeless design and always, always, with a ‘raison d’être’. Specializing in coastal waterfront properties, modern classics, historic preservation, with an undeniable enthusiasm for LUXE living spaces, including guest cottages and pool houses.

Melissa’s design inspiration is woven with architecture, history and the location. With her client’s lifestyle the frontrunner, Melissa develops a truly customized design solution for the homeowner(s). It is a true collective of their very own life story, and a unique DNA style is created just for them. Seeing beyond limitations, Melissa is best known for the thoughtful function in ‘design for living’, (the name of her company), bringing in the ‘JOIE DE VIVRE’. She has a natural ease forming and integrating a ‘home design’ team, resourceful with years of experience, integrity and long term relationships.

With a successful career advantage working in Investor Relations’ as Creative Director for Bankers Trust Company, specializing in branding and identity development, the corporate annual report, with Art Direction for TIME Magazine, New York Magazine, and Connoisseur, she launched DESIGN FOR LIVING LLC
in 2006, and holds an active Real Estate License in Connecticut.

A featured designer in ALBERT HADLEY’S ‘ROOMS WITH A VIEW’, in Southport, Connecticut, Melissa also served as design chair working directly with Mr. Hadley. Her design work is featured in numerous publications: Connecticut Cottages & Gardens, HOME Magazine, Country Home, Better Homes and Gardens, Westport Magazine, and Clarkson Potter's ‘The New Apartment Book’, …to name a few. 

In 2019, Makris was inducted into the ‘Distinguished Alumni HALL OF FAME’, at Hudson High School, in Hudson, Ohio. Melissa is recognized as one of 100 leading designers in Connecticut Cottages & Gardens LITTLE BLACK BOOK OF DESIGNERS.
